The Civil Rights Act
1964
The Civil Rights Act ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. JFK first proposed the plan, but Southern Congress members didn't agree and it wasn't until LBJ became president that the law was passed. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission was created because of the Civil Rights Act. This act also led to the voting rights of African Americans in 1965.
